Entry A. William Bradford

1. Thesis
in an excerpt from william bradford's Of Plymouth Plantation, although the puritans expireience hardship in their voyage to america, in their intial arrival and in their dealings with the indians, they still maintain their reverence to God and to one another.

2. favorite section
Being thus arrived in a good harbor, and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of Heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean, and delivered them from all the perils and miseries thereof, again to set their feet on the firm and stable earth, their proper element. And no marvel if they were thus joyful, seeing wise Seneca was so affected with sailing a few miles on the coast of his own Italy, as he affirmed, that he had rather remain twenty years on his way by land than pass by sea to any place in a short time, so tedious and dreadful was the same unto him.

3. reflection
what impressed me about this section was the reverence to god and how during the whole voyage they never lost faith in gods grace which is somehyting i appreciate.

4. diary entry
dear diary,
its day 12 and the sea is still unforgiving. the rest of the crewis thinking about turning around. i've considered it but it just doesnt seem right. i think we should continue and pray to god that we make it there safe. it's really uncomfortable here in the ship barracks my hammock keeps hitting the wall and waking me in the middle of the night. it smells horrible but i cant really talk i dont smell like a bundle of roses either. well its time to go up deck. goodbye.
